THE ART OF REFLECTION

It Reflects
Rather Than Occupies

Unlike traditional stone or bronze, mirror-polished stainless steel becomes part of the landscape around it. Each sculpture captures the movement of palm fronds, brilliant Florida skies, shimmering water, and ever-changing light. The result is a striking sculptural presence that feels remarkably weightless—reflecting the beauty of its surroundings rather than competing with them.

MATERIALITY & FINISH

Two Finishes,
Two Objects

Understanding the optical and practical differences between mirror and brushed stainless steel.

Mirror-polished stainless steel sphere reflecting sky and palms

MIRROR POLISH

High drama and profound optical depth. A mirror finish reflects its surroundings—sky, palms, and architecture—integrating the sculpture directly into the environment. It demands meticulous maintenance as it reveals every smudge and fingerprint.

Brushed satin stainless steel sphere with soft grey grain

BRUSHED SATIN

A quiet, forgiving grey metal with a soft directional grain. It diffuses light rather than reflecting it, drawing the eye to the pure geometric form of the object itself. Highly resilient, it conceals smudges with ease for lower maintenance.

ALLOY SPECIFICATION

316

Fortified with 2.0% – 3.0% Molybdenum addition. Exceptional resistance to coastal pitting and tea staining.

MATERIAL INTEGRITY

316 Near
The Water

South Florida’s coastal environment presents a relentless challenge to exterior metals. The distinction between standard 304 and marine-grade 316 stainless steel is not a matter of preference—it is a structural necessity for any permanent exterior installation.

While standard alloys succumb to "tea staining" and rapid surface oxidation when exposed to salt-laden air, 316 stainless steel is engineered with molybdenum. This critical addition dramatically increases chloride resistance, ensuring your statuary maintains its flawless optical reflection, even steps from the Atlantic.

The Contemporary
Vocabulary

Mirror polished stainless steel sphere sculpture reflecting palm trees

Spheres

Flawless convex surfaces calibrated to reflect landscapes without distortion. Seamless orbital welding ensures absolute continuity of the brushed or mirrored finish.

Abstract fluid stainless steel sculpture showing compound curves

Abstract

Fluid, non-representational forms demanding mastery of compound curves. Hand-finished to eliminate planar deviations across complex organic transitions.

Geometric stainless steel sculpture with sharp 90 degree angles

Geometric

Sharp, uncompromising 90-degree angles and pristine planar surfaces. Edge preparation and precision fixturing guarantee perfect dimensional stability.

Kinetic wind-driven stainless steel sculpture engineered for movement

Kinetic

Aerodynamically balanced components mounted on sealed precision bearings. Engineered to respond to the slightest coastal breeze while resisting salt ingress.

Siting Guidance

Consider the
Sun Angle

Mirror-polished stainless steel interacts beautifully with its surroundings, capturing and redirecting the changing light throughout the day. In South Florida, thoughtful placement can dramatically influence how a piece appears—from brilliant morning reflections to the softer patterns created beneath palms and surrounding foliage. Consider nearby walkways, water features, architecture and natural shade when selecting the ideal location for your sculpture.

DESIGNER'S NOTE

The angle of the sun can dramatically change the character of a mirrored sculpture. Eastern exposures and locations with filtered light often create softer, more nuanced reflections, while surrounding palms and foliage add movement, texture and color throughout the day.

THE REALITY OF REFLECTION

Mirror Finishes,
Ask More

A mirror-polished surface is an optical event, but it demands active stewardship. Fingerprints, ambient pollen, and hard-water deposits will assert themselves on any flawless finish. We build these pieces for endurance, but achieving that pristine daily gleam requires intention and regular care.

If you seek an installation that demands nothing, a brushed finish may serve you better. But if you are willing to invest in its upkeep, a mirror finish rewards you with an unmatched dialogue with the landscape.

CARE PROTOCOL

Soft Cloth,
With the Grain

Maintaining the pristine surface of your contemporary statuary requires a deliberate, minimal approach to prevent micro-abrasions. Always clean with intention.

  • Use warm water and a mild, non-abrasive soap.
  • Wipe strictly parallel to the brushed grain direction.
  • Rinse thoroughly and dry with a microfiber cloth.
  • Never use steel wool or harsh scouring pads.
  • Avoid chlorine-based or highly acidic cleaners entirely.

STRUCTURAL ANCHORING

Lighter Than Stone,
Still Anchored

Unlike solid stone or cast concrete, our contemporary stainless steel statuary is hollow-fabricated. This advanced technique dramatically reduces the overall weight, facilitating safer transport and easier positioning within delicate landscaping.

However, this lightness demands absolute structural rigor. To ensure complete stability against South Florida's high wind events and to provide permanent security, every piece must be bolted directly to a level concrete pad or subterranean footing. No shortcuts, just enduring placement.

Reflection Doesn't

Questions, Answered

Grades, finishes, glare, and upkeep — what stainless asks of you in a coastal climate.

Stainless steel can develop surface staining or corrosion depending on the grade, finish, exposure, and surrounding conditions. Salt air, irrigation, pool environments, and other coastal factors can be especially important. Different grades of stainless perform differently, so metal-containing pieces should be evaluated individually for oceanfront or highly exposed applications. Ask us about the specific grade and finish of any piece you are considering.

Mirror and brushed finishes create very different visual effects. Mirror-polished stainless reflects the surrounding landscape, architecture, sky, and light, while brushed finishes tend to read as softer and more understated. Fingerprints, water spots, and weathering can also appear differently on each finish. Seeing both in person is often the best way to decide which works with your space.

Metal surfaces exposed to direct Florida sun can become warm or hot, and highly polished surfaces can reflect strong light. The amount of heat and glare depends on the shape, finish, orientation, surrounding surfaces, and time of day. These factors are worth considering when placing reflective pieces near walkways, seating areas, windows, or neighboring properties.

Maintenance varies by location and exposure. Fingerprints, pollen, irrigation, salt, rain, and mineral deposits may be more visible on highly polished surfaces than on brushed finishes. There is no single cleaning schedule that applies to every installation, so care should be based on the condition of the specific piece and any manufacturer or vendor recommendations.

Care requirements depend on the stainless grade, finish, and manufacturer. Abrasive tools, harsh chemicals, and inappropriate cleaners can alter or damage some stainless surfaces, particularly highly polished finishes. Before using steel wool, abrasive pads, chlorine-based products, solvents, specialty cleaners, or other treatments, check the care guidance for the specific piece or ask our team.

Anchoring requirements depend on the size, shape, weight, construction, location, base, wind exposure, and other site conditions. Stainless pieces may vary considerably in weight and construction, so we do not make a blanket recommendation that every sculpture should be secured in the same way or guarantee storm performance. Larger, taller, exposed, or unusual installations should be evaluated individually, and an appropriately qualified professional may be needed when structural considerations are involved.

Reflective stainless changes with its surroundings, so the setting becomes an important part of the sculpture. Sky, landscaping, water, architecture, and movement can all appear across the surface throughout the day. When choosing a location, consider not only the piece itself but also what it will reflect from the primary viewing angles.
